Isaac Regional Council formed in March 2008 as an amalgamation of three former shires – Nebo, Belyando, and Broadsound – and was created to serve the communities by providing a more efficient level of service to all residents and a stronger long-term future for the Region. The Isaac Regional Council covers an area from “Coal to the Coast” in Central Queensland, and incorporates shires that all have traditional links to grazing, agriculture and mining.

Waste Profile

  • 1 site, no weighbridge
  • Environmental factors associated with remote locations such as lack of good internet connection, limited IT resources, operation away from power source
  • Operating in an area prone to natural disaster – data recovery is crucial

MANDALAY’S HAND HELD TABLET – THE SOLUTION

A hand held tablet was the ideal solution for this small council. The main feature that attracted Isaac to the tablet solution was its ability to be used for disaster recovery, particularly in cyclone-prone North Queensland.

The tablet:

  • is portable and light
  • doesn’t require connection to a power source
  • has a battery that lasts all day which plugs into a base station to charge when required
  • is an excellent solution for sites without dial up internet, good connectivity, or with limited IT capabilities

Ideal for sites without a weighbridge, the tablet connects to a bluetooth printer that can be attached to an operator’s belt, meaning that printing tickets is instantaneous without needing to go to a hut. In addition, the tablet is small and able to be stored securely.

What our customer has to say:

“The tablet based system is good for a remote site and provide portability. Data capturing is easy and reliable.”

Gert Nell, Environmental Health Officer, Isaac Regional Council
